Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October. And it is also one of the most ancient celebrations in the world. In fact, it has been celebrated for over 2,000 years. Also known as “All Hallow’s Eve” and “The Feast of the Dead”, this tells you that the celebration of Halloween is by no means a celebration of goodness and light. The druids (a class of priests in Celtic Britain) believed that on the day before the 1st of November, evil spirits trapped in the bodies of animals gathered along with witches, ghosts, elves and fairies to harm humans. This explains why witches, ghosts and a variety of supernatural creatures are commonly associated with Halloween celebrations.
The trick-or-treat practice, where children go from house to house on the 31st of October, is also rooted in ancient tradition but with a much darker theme. Impoverished farmers in the time of the Celts would beg for food in the name of their Halloween gods with a threat along these lines “Treat me or I will trick you.”
In modern times, both practices melded into a Halloween tradition that required the wearing of scary costumes by children (sometimes accompanied by their older sisters or brothers) as they knocked on doors in their neighborhood with joyful shrieks of “Trick or treat!”
Halloween, despite its roots in the supernatural, has become a day celebrated with families and friends with much enjoyment. We can’t help it, not only is the 31st of October a day to bond with the people we are most fond of, it is also a time to let our witchy hair down. And it is also a chance to wear Halloween costumes to scare the wits out of anyone.
And the top 3 costumes are:

The wicked witch costume has all the elements of an ideal Halloween costume. The history of witchcraft is riddled with superstition and bloodshed. And this history has created a look that was tweaked through the years but remains virtually unchanged. When you see the costume, you immediately know it belongs to a witch. The cone-shaped hat, the cape, and the loose dress that can be cinched for a sexy look are all elements of the witch’s costume that has made it a popular costume for Halloween ever since it (Halloween) was celebrated in a lighter vein.

Vampire costumes will be in greater demand for Halloween this year. One need only know that movies like “Twilight” and television shows like “The Vampire Diaries” and “True Blood” are raking in the big bucks to be sure that costumed vampire kids and adults will be roaming the neighborhood trick-or-treating come the 31st of October.
For Halloween, why not bring out the big guns to represent the most evil force mankind has ever known – the devil. If you don’t want to go with a the traditional tail and cloven hoof because there’s nothing pretty about them, you can just don a pair of horns and a witchy dress in red, and you have channeled a sexy she-devil.
